location: Kasur, Punjab, Pakistan

sector: Dairy

solar power project: 2 MW

Dairy sector, due to lower sanction load, faces high commercial tariff and is zero-rated which further adds to input costs. With slight design reorientation of sheds and utilization of land, solar installations can significantly help lower energy costs.

Dada, one of the pioneers in the dairy industry, converted to renewables to reduce their energy costs by up to 15% and secure an uninterrupted energy supply.  They partnered with Reon to install a 1 MW Solar PV Plant at Dada Dairies and another 1 MW at Dada Enterprises to hedge their energy rates for the next 25 years.

The project uses net-metering to avail utility bill credits in case of excess supply and generates a combined 2750 MWh of approximate energy annually.

client: Proctor and Gamble Pakistan Pvt. Ltd

location: Sindh, Pakistan

sector: FMCG

solar power project: 1.85 MW

The Situation:

Procter and Gamble Pakistan has a goal of purchasing 100% renewable electricity globally by 2030 and has been aggressively pursuing renewable energy avenues. P&G Pakistan, to achieve this goal and mitigate rising electricity tariffs over the years requested an OpEx solution for renewable energy at commercially discounted rates versus grid. The project was implemented towards the end of 2020.

The Solution:

  • NEPRA approved Generation License for Solar based Power Generation System procured with end-to-end solar plant being installed with complete monitoring, control, and synchronization.
  • Agreement signed on PPA basis to achieve renewable targets, reduce costs, and save on Capex
    for P&G Pakistan.

The Impact:

  • 2.8 GWh of annual energy units displaced by solar energy i.e., equivalent to 1,800 Tons of carbon savings annually.
  • Roughly 30-40% reduction in cost per unit for grid displaced by solar energy.

Project highlights

client: Interloop Pvt Ltd

location: Faisalabbad, Punjab, Pakistan

sector: Textile

solar power project: 1.83 MW

The solar power project was installed at Interloop Parking Shed. Interloop’s sustainability framework is based on the triple bottom line approach i.e. People, Planet and Prosperity. As part of Interloop’s #Vision2025 rollout, they are working towards a target of 25% GHG emission reduction by the fall of 2026 through an investment in and large-scale rollout of renewable and clean energy.

Interloop was purely dependent on gas-fueled captive power plants. Therefore, due to the expected price hike in gas tariffs, Nishat textiles partnered with Reon for solar installation to reduce the energy cost of their current energy mix.

One of the main objectives of Interloop behind this project was that of ‘Achieving Green Energy Targets’ to obtain LEED Certification.

On the way to achieving their goal, Interloop has installed a 1.9 MW Solar Power Project in their parking shed, which is underway and set to be completed by next month. By installing the Solar Power Plant, Interloop will also achieve a Levelized cost leading to 20% of savings vs. on Genset.

Being completely reliant on gas gensets to meet its energy needs, Al Nasr, a subsidiary of Pak Kuwait Textile Ltd. was severely impacted by gas shortages that was exacerbated with the surge in gas tariffs. The prevailing situation made it difficult for the business to power its 84000 plus spindles.

In 2019, Reon installed a 1.69 MW plant that has significantly reduced the factory’s dependence on gas. The solar plant generates roughly 2520 MWh energy annually.
